How Do I Become A Carer

 Firstly, you will need to complete an application form which will include providing two up to date references.

Next we will interview you and if you are successful we will complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) form with you. The cost to go through a CRB check will be your responsibility and the check is mandatory.

 What Training Do I Receive

Your induction with us will take 6-7 weeks and consist of the following 3 elements:

1)     Induction Training

The Induction Training will include mandatory training in the following areas:

a) Common Induction Standards

b)  Health and Safety

c)  Manual Handling

In addition you will also be offered on going training in the following areas

a)  Dementia,

b)  POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults),

c)  Food Hygiene and Safety,

d)  Medication,

e)  Fire Safety

Finally, Care By Us will facilitate and enable you to work towards and achieve your nationally recognized NVQ (National Vocational Training) Qualifications in caring.

2)    Shadowing and Mentoring Programme

As part of your training programme you will be allocated a Senior Carer as your mentor. You will be sent out on a number of shadowing visits with your mentor and possibly other carers to a selection of clients. The mentor/ allocated carer will then complete an assessment of you at each visit and we will also ask for feedback from our clients.

3)  Course Work

The third element of your training will be a work book that we will require you to complete in accordance with National Minimum Standards. The work book and all necessary reference material will be provided by ourselves.

How do I know if I am Doing a Good Job?

Very quickly, the feedback we will receive from our existing carers and clients and your experience in the field will tell us all whether this work is for you.

In addition to regular reviews by our in-house Care Services Manager we do spot checks, competence reviews and appraisals.

These are not tests designed to catch you out but rather to help and support you and enable you to do your job better and in line with Care By Us standards.
